Meridian Therapy

Meridian Therapy is a therapy in which disease is understood in terms of changes detected on the meridians and acupuncture points.  It utilizes careful palpation in diagnosis and point location.  The meridians are identified as balanced, deficient or excessive and treated with light needling, moxa or teishin to bring back its balance.  The therapy originates in Japan and also emphasizes on treating the root of the disease according to the Chinese classics (Nan Jing).

Through our clinic experience, we recognize the importance of identifying imbalances in specific meridians.  As the Chinese Classics Nei Jing says: "if one does not understand the meridians, whatever you say or do are mistaken; if one understand the meridians, then treatments are simple."  We feel the combination of meridian and root deficiency focus with gentle techniques is especially suitable for today's patients where the body and mind are constantly stressed by the modern environment of chemicals and demanding work and life schedules.  When we could return meridians to their healthy state, health is not only the absence of disease but abundance of energy and vitality.

Diane Chen has been an avid member of my In-Touch (Japanese style acupuncture study group) in Seattle. I'm sure her keen focus and gentle touch will bring great benefit to her patients. In addition to treating symptoms, she knows how to supplement root deficiencies (improve constitution) and balance the body to help it heal itself over time. She understands the essence of our medicine.
